The CINC research profile

A different focus in the field of citizenship research is urgently needed to meet the demands of a changing democracy in the face of current challenges. A didactic perspective on democracy makes it possible to understand societal transformations as a learning process in which the conditions of living together are renegotiated and highlights the  learning processes of citizens i.e. education. This broad understanding of didactics is the foundation of the research center and guides our research on social exclusion mechanisms and inclusive practices.

The Research Center “Inclusive Citizenship” offers a unique interdisciplinary approach, which involves various disciplines and  is influenced by the integrative research and results of the following research networks at the Leibniz University Hannover: the Center for Diversity, Migration and Education (diversitAS), the Leibniz School of Education (LSE), the Institute for the Didactics of Democracy (IDD), the Institute for the Didactics of Natural Sciences (IDN) and the PhD program "Didactic Research". In particular, the ongoing joint project “Cultural Heritage as a Resource?” (CHER) is a central reference point for the transdisciplinary work of the Research Center.
